Enter each leg of your journey.

For each leg, choose a departure station, destination, and travel date. The planner compares explicit adult ordinary-class fare quotes with current pass products.

Covers all Shinkansen stations and major conventional JR limited express routes. Unsupported or stale quotes produce an incomplete result, never an estimate.

How it decides

1. Enter each leg

Each leg has its own origin, destination, and travel date — like booking flights.

2. Use explicit quotes

The planner selects a conservative catalog season and blocks any leg without a usable, verifiable fare quote.

3. Optimize purchases

Tickets-only, passes, mixed combinations, activation windows, exclusions, and coverage rules are cost-ranked.

What the calculator uses

Each non-final stop creates a rail leg on the departure date you enter. The final destination does not require an unused date.

Each supported leg must have a current explicit fare quote. The optimizer then compares individual tickets with eligible pass activation windows and mixed ticket-and-pass combinations.

The planner covers all Shinkansen stations nationwide plus major conventional JR limited express routes. If a route is not yet source-backed, it clearly blocks the result instead of estimating.

FAQ

Does the Japan Rail Pass cover all Shinkansen?

It covers all JR Shinkansen services except Nozomi and Mizuho, which require a special supplement ticket. It also covers many conventional JR limited express trains. The planner keeps these rules in view when recommending passes.

Is this based on AI output?

No. The planner uses explicit fare and pass records with source, effective-date, and freshness metadata. It does not generate missing fares.

Can I update the data monthly?

Yes. The fare and pass catalog is versioned separately from the UI and validates prices, sources, effective dates, freshness, and route coverage.
