Which airline program should you transfer to?
KrisFlyer · Singapore Airlines, Scoot & Star Alliance partners
KrisFlyer calculator →Singapore Airlines’ loyalty currency. The default miles program for most Singapore cardholders because of the widest bank transfer support. Miles expire 3 years (plus a 6-month extension window) from the month earned.
Estimated value: S$1.5–2.0 per mile.
Asia Miles · Cathay Pacific, Cathay Dragon & oneworld partners
Asia Miles calculator →Cathay’s loyalty currency (now unified under the Cathay brand). Transfer ratios are similar to KrisFlyer at most banks. Miles expire 36 months from the month earned.
Estimated value: S$1.4–1.8 per mile.
Avios · British Airways, Iberia & oneworld partners
Avios calculator →The shared currency of British Airways Executive Club and Iberia Plus. Fewer Singapore banks transfer to Avios than to KrisFlyer, but it can be excellent value for premium-cabin redemptions and short-haul oneworld flights.
Estimated value: S$1.3–1.7 per mile.
Methodology
This calculator uses explicit, deterministic formulas rather than hidden heuristics. For every conversion it computes:
- Eligibility: your balance must meet the bank's minimum transfer threshold.
- Transferable points: points are floored to whole transfer blocks — any remainder stays in your account.
- Forward conversion:
miles = transferable_points × (miles_received ÷ points_required). - Rounding: the result is rounded per the bank's rule (Singapore banks round down to the nearest whole mile).
Fees are shown separately and never subtracted from miles. You can also run the reverse calculation to see how many points a target redemption needs. Rates were last reviewed 2026-06-29 and cross-checked against Mainly Miles — Credit card transfer partners, Mainly Miles — HSBC Revolution review, HSBC Singapore — Rewards on credit cards, Mainly Miles — What’s a KrisFlyer mile worth, Singapore Airlines — Mix Miles & Cash, The MileLion. Always verify the current ratio with your bank before transferring.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert bank points to airline miles in Singapore?▾
Log in to your bank's rewards portal, select the airline loyalty program (KrisFlyer, Asia Miles or Avios), enter your membership number and the points amount, and submit. Most Singapore banks transfer in blocks and round the resulting miles down. Use this calculator to see exactly how many miles you will receive before you commit.
What is the best bank for transferring points to KrisFlyer?▾
DBS and UOB are the most efficient, transferring at 1:2 (0.5 points per mile — 1 point = 2 miles). Citi PremierMiles transfers at 1:1 (1 Citi Mile = 1 KrisFlyer mile). OCBC$ transfers at 5:2 (2.5 points per mile), and HSBC Points transfer at 3:1 (3 points per mile) after a 20% increase in January 2025. The "best" depends on which card you earn points on.
Is there a minimum points transfer?▾
Yes. Most Singapore banks require a minimum before you can transfer — for example DBS requires at least 5,000 points, UOB and OCBC require 2,500, and HSBC requires a 10,000-mile minimum (30,000 points) for KrisFlyer. The calculator flags when your balance is below the minimum and shows how many more points you need.
Do my miles expire?▾
KrisFlyer miles expire 3 years (plus a 6-month extension window) from the month earned. Asia Miles expire 36 months from the month earned. Avios no longer expire as long as your account has activity. Only transfer points you plan to redeem soon.
Why are some of my points left over?▾
Banks transfer points in blocks. If your balance is not an exact multiple of the block size, the remainder stays in your rewards account. For example, with a 5,000-point block, 12,000 points transfers 10,000 and leaves 2,000 behind.
Should I convert my points to miles?▾
Transfer when you have a concrete redemption in mind and your balance clears the minimum. If you do not travel often, points can sometimes be redeemed directly for vouchers or statement credit instead — though miles usually offer better value for frequent travellers.
What is a KrisFlyer mile worth in cash?▾
If you use Singapore Airlines’ "Mix Miles & Cash" to offset a cash fare, each KrisFlyer mile is worth exactly 1 Singapore cent (100 miles = S$1) — this is SIA’s guaranteed floor value. Buying miles outright costs about 5.4 Singapore cents per mile. In contrast, redeeming miles for a flight typically returns around 1.5 to 2 Singapore cents per mile, so Mix Miles & Cash undervalues your miles by about half. Save them for flight redemptions unless your miles are expiring and you have no travel planned.
